The River Don Trust, Unit 19 Netherton Business Centre, Fetternear, Kemnay, Aberdeenshire AB51 5LX
Rising in the Cairngorms National Park and flowing 135 km east to the sea at Aberdeen, the River Don is Scotland’s sixth-largest river, draining a catchment area of 1,312 sq km. It supports a diverse range of freshwater species, including the iconic Atlantic salmon, sea trout, eels, lamprey, and specimen wild brown trout, for which the river is particularly well known. The Don District Salmon Fishery Board is the statutory body responsible for protecting and enhancing salmon and sea trout populations throughout the district. The Board comprises salmon fishery owners and angling representatives. The River Don Trust is a charitable organisation established to promote environmental protection and improvement for public benefit by conserving and enhancing the natural biodiversity associated with the freshwater environments of the River Don. The Board is based at Netherton Business Centre, near the village of Kemnay, and employs three Fisheries Officers. Their work covers river management, conservation, and fisheries protection across the district. The Board currently operates under a management service level agreement with the Dee District Salmon Fishery Board, with both river organisations working closely together.
