More information
Many thanks to Mr & Mrs Mark Gough for facilitating this camera's location .The River Derg is a substantial spate river, measuring approximately 10-20 meters in width, and originates from Lough Derg. It boasts a thriving population of wild brown trout, although its reputation primarily stems from its noteworthy salmon and sea trout runs, which are typically most abundant between late May and August.
Ardstraw, formerly known as Ardsrath, holds a position of significant historical antiquity and is particularly renowned for its ancient and highly revered abbey, as mentioned in the previous description of the Ardstraw parish. The village is located on the banks of the wide and fast-flowing River Derg. Notably, the river is spanned by an ancient stone bridge comprising six arches, which previously served as a vital thoroughfare on the old route from Londonderry to Dublin.
