Many thanks to River Deveron Salmon, Sea & Brown Trout Fishing  for facilitating this camera's location and to the Deveron Bogie & Isla Rivers Charitable Trust for capitally funding its installation. The Deveron River originates in the hills of West Aberdeenshire, specifically in the remote Cabrach region. It flows northward and is joined on its left bank by the Blackwater. From there, it changes direction and follows a north-easterly course as it passes through Strathglass and eventually reaches Huntly. The middle to lower stretches of the river offer exceptional glides, with plenty of white water due to the rocky riverbed. Even in low water conditions, it remains productive for fishing. The Deveron is susceptible to flash flooding, causing the water to turn black temporarily, but it eventually clears to a desirable golden brown color that fly anglers find appealing.
Spanning approximately 55 miles, the river Deveron emerges from the Cabrach Hills, situated between Glass, Dufftown, and Rhynie. It is part of the Deveron, Isla, and Bogie Trust, and we adhere to their regulations and guidelines. Throughout the years, the Deveron has gained renown as a river abundant in Salmon, Sea Trout, and Brown Trout. The fishing season for Salmon and Sea Trout extends from 11th February to 31st October, while the Brown Trout season runs from 14th March to 6th October. Notably, the UK record for the largest Salmon caught on a fly still belongs to the Deveron, with Mrs. 'Tiny' Morison capturing the record-breaking fish in 1924.Eden Castle, located near Banff in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, is a historic castle with origins in the latter half of the 16th century. Initially built by the Meldrum family, the castle underwent renovations and additional construction work carried out by George Leslie starting from 1676. In 1712, ownership of the castle passed to William Duff, the Earl of Fife. Although the castle stands mostly in ruins today, it was originally designed as a z-plan towerhouse, featuring two towers positioned diagonally at opposite corners of the main block. The site holds the status of a scheduled monument, recognizing its historical significance.
Salmon can be encountered right from opening day on February 11th anywhere on the river but the higher beats are usually a favourite. During April and May the brown trout fishing is superb with many specimens of 5 to 6 lb being caught each year.

Sea Trout start running towards the end of May until July and again a 7 lb fish is not uncommon.

The grilse run begins mid July but given water can start in June and can last all season.
