More information

Many thanks to Mr & Mrs Mark Gough for facilitating this camera's location and to NM Tackle for capitally funding its installation. The River Derg is a large (10-20m) spate river rising in Lough Derg. It has a fine head of wild brown trout, but it is best known for salmon and sea trout which are generally at their best from late May to August. Ardstraw formerly Ardsrath, is of high antiquity, and is distinguished for its ancient and greatly lay celebrated abbey, noticed in the preceding description of the parish of Ardstraw. The village is situated on the river Derg, which is here wide and rapid, and red is crossed by an ancient stone bridge of six arches over which the old road from Londonderry to Dublin formerly passed.
