The Kenwith Valley Channel is a small waterway that converges with the tidal zone of the River Torridge, situated in the center of Bideford. This channel serves as a hidden gem within the area, offering a tranquil escape for visitors to enjoy a pleasant walk and observe the local wildlife. The Kenwith Valley Nature Reserve, nestled on the outskirts of Bideford, boasts captivating features such as a picturesque lake, woodlands, and traditional grasslands. This camera was installed and is maintained by theEnvironment Agency and can be viewed here. All content is available under the Open Government Licence v3.0. Recently, the local council undertook a refurbishment project to enhance the viewing area overlooking the lake, which had deteriorated and eroded over time. To ensure sustainability and minimize waste, old posts and sleepers from the demolished visitor center at Northam Burrows were repurposed to construct the platform. The surface was then covered with aggregate to create a sturdy and visually appealing viewing surface.Kenwith Castle, an ancient fortification situated in Abbotsham parish, Devonshire, holds historical significance in the region. Located 2 miles west of Bideford, it was the site where Odun, Earl of Devon, achieved a significant victory over the Danish invader Hubba in 878. Although the physical remnants of the castle have diminished over time, a hill known as Henny Castle serves as a traditional marker representing its former location.
