Many thanks to the folks at  The Anchor Hotel for facilitating this camera's location. This webcam overlooks the tidal waters of the River Urr at Kippford, one of the most picturesque coastal villages in south-west Scotland. Situated on the Solway Firth in Dumfries & Galloway, Kippford is often known as the 'Solway Riviera' due to its attractive waterfront setting, sailing heritage, and mild coastal climate. Kippford is a popular destination for sailors, walkers, anglers, and visitors exploring the Solway Coast. The village is home to the Solway Yacht Club, with numerous yachts and small craft moored within the tidal estuary of the River Urr. The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) has maintained a lifeboat station at Kippford for more than 40 years, providing an important service to local mariners and visitors. The village also has a rich industrial history. During the Victorian era, Kippford played a role in the local granite quarrying industry, with stone transported from nearby quarries via a small railway to the waterfront. The nearby Mote of Mark, an ancient hill fort located between Kippford and Rockcliffe, offers evidence of settlement in the area stretching back many centuries. The River Urr rises at Loch Urr and flows south for approximately 35 miles through the heart of Dumfries & Galloway before entering the Solway Firth at Rough Firth. Along its journey, the river passes through Corsock, Bridge of Urr, Haugh of Urr, Dalbeattie and Palnackie before reaching the sea at Kippford. The river is well known for its salmon and sea trout fishing and supports a diverse range of wildlife throughout its catchment. This live webcam provides a valuable view of tidal conditions, river levels, weather and boating activity at one of Scotland's most scenic estuaries.
